After giving an overview of the Langlands Program in the function field case, we will outline the main ideas of the geometric Langlands correspondence. It relates local systems on an algebraic curve to Hecke eigensheaves on the moduli space of bundles on this curve. The advantage of the geometric reformulation is that it makes sense when the curve is defined both over a finite field and over the complex field. We will then discuss recent progress in the proof of the geometric Langlands conjectures.
