In my talk I will explain how to associate to a convex polytope a sequence of vector spaces whose dimensions are ``the generalized h-numbers'' defined by R.Stanley. These vector spaces are analogs of intersection cohomology spaces of toric varieties and, as such, have the properties of such: for example, they satisfy Poincare duality and Hard Lefschetz Theorem.
