I will discuss elliptic genera for log-terminal Q-Gorenstein varieties and for orbifolds and a theorem on the equality of orbifold and singular elliptic genus. Numerology of McKay correspondence is a special case of this relation. Among the consequences is a generalization of results of Goetsche and Dijkgraaf, Moore, E.Verlinde, H,Verlinde on generating series of invariants of Hilbert schemes.
