In this talk we will introduce a microlocal argument to decouple hyperbolic-parabolic coupled systems, such as nonlinear thermoelastic systems and compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Several applications of this argument will be given ranging from the propagation of singularities, decay estimates of solutions, and the existence of global solutions for hyperbolic-parabolic coupled systems.
