Abstract:
It is classical that on a flat torus, for each direction, the linear flow is either completely periodic or minimal, and if minimal, thenuniquely ergodic. The first property we call topological dichotomy and the second is known as strict ergodicity. Translation surface are the generalizations of flat tori to higher genus. For each direction there is a flow by straght lines. I will discuss some of what is known about the topological and ergodic properties of these flows.Date: Tuesday, October 03, 2006
