In my talk I plan to give an introduction to some of the properties of quadratic differentials and their moduli space. I'll then use facts about configuration spaces of points on Riemann surfaces and their relationship to sections of line bundles, as well as some properties of hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces, to construct a subgroup of the fundamental group of a particular stratum of this moduli space.
