Abstract:
The study of foliation dynamics replaces the concept of time-ordered trajectories with multi-dimensional futures for points, the leaves of the foliation F, and asks for properties of the aggregate and statistica behavior of the collection of its leaves. In this talk, we address theDate: Tuesday, February 19, 2008Question: Is it possible to classify (almost all) foliations on a compact manifold based on their dynamical behavior?
The possibility of giving some solution to this problem depends, of course, on what we mean by "classify". The development of foliation theory for the past 40 years has seen various solutions to the problem offered, each corresponding to the introduction of some new idea or technique, and leading to a deeper understanding of foliation dynamics. We will discuss yet another approach to this question, and how it is related to the previous works.
