Given a smooth compact manifold M, consider the space X of Anosov diffeomorphisms of M. Let D be the space of diffeomorphims of M that are homotopic to identity. We show that X and the Teichmuller space X/D of smooth conjugacy classes have rich topology. As a byproduct we obtain a new simple construction of Anosov diffeomorphisms on exotic nilmanifolds.
