The theory of entropy structure and symbolic extensions, developed by Boyle and Downarowicz, captures and extends the classical theory of entropy for continuous self-maps of compact metric spaces. We survey some developments in this theory, and in particular, we discuss recent results with David Burguet on the order of accumulation of entropy.
