I will discuss some recent work with Jordan Ellenberg on Teichmuller curves and Veech groups. The plan is to connect congruence subgroups, geometric and algebraic symmetry, and Teichmuller curves. I will aim for a general audience and believe the material will be accessible to beginning graduate students.
