I'll describe the approach to equivariant elliptic cohomology developed by Grojnowski and Ginzburg-Kapranov-Vasserot. I'll explain how a number of the principal results concerning elliptic cohomology can be understood from this point of view. I'll suggest that this theory provides a toy model for understanding some of Lurie's results about derived equivariant eliptic cohomology.
