Special Note: This talk is accessible to a general audience
Abstract:
In this participatory workshop, we will examine ways to include topics from Sustainability into math courses with the aim of increasing student interest and motivation in mathematics. I will share some of the approaches I have used in calculus and differential equations courses as well as service learning projects that math majors carried out in their capstone Senior Conference course. Participants are invited to bring their own examples to share with the group. This work is related to my involvement in an NSF grant that is developing an interdisciplinary program for secondary teachers on sustainability: INLETS - Inspiring Learning and Teaching through Sustainability.Date: Tuesday, November 9, 2010
