Abstract:

Mirror symmetry is a phenomenon first discovered by string theorists around 1990 relating two very different kinds of geometric entities: counts of rational curves on Calabi-Yau manifolds (such as the quintic three-fold in complex projective 4-space) and integrals of holomorphic forms on the mirror Calabi-Yau manifold. Since then, there has been a great deal of work devoted to understanding this relationship.

I will talk about joint work with Pandharipande and Siebert which gives a mirror symmetry relationship which we believe lies at the heart of mirror symmetry.
