Abstract:
In this talk we intend to describe some elements present in the "modern" dynamical approach in number theory and in particular Diophantine approximation. These lines of ideas, which start from Margulis' proof of the Oppenheim conjecture and Ratner's measure classification and equidistribution theorems, have been quite successful in settling long standing conjectures and continue to be very vivid in tackling other problems.Date: Tuesday, January 11, 2011
