Abstract:
K3 surfaces are simply connected projective surfaces with trivial canonical class, e.g., quartic surfaces in projective space. The arithmetic of K3 surfaces over number fields and function fields is very rich but many basic questions remain open: What are the obstructions to having a rational point? Can these be computed effectively? Do general and special K3 surfaces behave similarly in these respects? We survey recent results on these questions.Date: Wednesday, May 2, 2012
