Abstract:

I will discuss what it means for a transformation to be rigid and what is known about the structure of rigidity sequences. I will also discuss the topological analogue of rigidity, called uniform rigidity. Given an increasing sequence that satisfies a certain growth condition, I will show how to construct a weakly mixing homeomorphism of the two-torus that is uniformly rigid with respect to a given sequence.
