Several natural equations in complex geometry arise as a moment map for an infinite dimensional Hamiltonian action. Through the Kempf-Ness principle, this leads to natural conjectures and results relating the existence of solutions to certain algebro-geometric stability conditions. I will describe the general framework, and give several examples, such as Kahler-Einstein metrics, constant scalar curvature and extremal Kahler metrics, and the J-flow and other Hessian type equations.Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2015
