Abstract:
These lectures are on some recent advances in the study of stable rationality of varieties. After reviewing the classical exam of Artin and Mumford, I will talk about the specialization methods of Voisin and Colliot-Thelene/Pirutka which were used to give new examples of varieties which are not stably rational. I will also talk about unramified cohomology and rationality in families, and time permitting, discuss the result of Hassett-Pirutka-Tschinkel proving rationality is not deformation invariant.Date: Friday, March 03, 2017
