I will recall some of the basic notions of the Minimal Model Program and I will explain how Calabi-Yau manifolds arise in this framework. Then I will introduce Abundance Conjecture and explains its relation with the problem of finding rational curves on fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds, that will be the topic of the main talk.
