My aim with this talk is to explain a connection between the lattice PSL_2(Z) of PSL_2(R), Ford circles, and Pythagorean triples. Along the way, I'll talk about the classification of isometries of the hyperbolic plane, and say a little bit about discrete group actions. Time permitting, I will talk about how an analogous picture in the complex hyperbolic plane was used in some recent work of myself and Julien Paupert to find presentations for complex hyperbolic lattices.
