Abstract:
I will give an overview on the rationality problem for hypersurfaces and explain the recent progress of Stefan Schreieder https://arxiv.org/pdf/1801.05397.pdf on this question. He proved that over any uncountable field k of characteristic different from 2, a very general hypersurface of dimension N>2 and degree at least log_2(N)+2 is not stably rational over the algebraic closure of the field k. This improves Kollár and Totaro's earlier results.Date: Thursday, December 06, 2018
