Abstract:
In recent years there has been a confluence of ideas in the Langlands program, so that the more sheaf-theoretic and categorical ideas that play a key role in the geometric Langlands program are being incorporated into the arithmetic Langlands program too. The goal of this colloquium is to give a gentle introduction to some of these ideas, with an emphasis on the big picture and some of the underlying philosophical ideas. Some of the topics that I hope to touch on in the course of the talk are spectral theory and localization, representation varieties, and modularity theorems for Galois representations.Date: Wednesday, October 20, 2021
