Abstract:
A seminal result of Schwartzman in topological dynamical systems ensures the existence of asymptotic pairs in any infinite system. These pairs are at the heart of many problems because they provide subtle invariants for zero entropy systems. For example, they are found in the study of complexity, centralizers and combinatorial problems such as the Nivat conjecture. In this talk, we will propose an overview of some of their properties and applications. Extension to different groups action will also be discussedDate: Thursday, October 12, 2023
